Nigeria 4-0 Venezuela: Falconets qualify for FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup knockout stage

 

Nigeria's Falconets defeated Venezuela 4-0 to qualify for the knockout stages of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.

Nigeria's women's youth team recorded a 4-0 win against their counterparts from Venezuela in their final group game of the ongoing 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.

The Falconets defeated Korea Republic 1-0 in their group opener only to lose to Germany 3-1 in their second game.

Needing a positive result to advance, the Falconets led by Chris Danjuma started well and went in front when Chiamaka Cristabel Okwuchukwu assisted Omowunmi Bello to score the first goal in the 16th minute.

Chiamaka Cristabel Okwuchukwu who scored in the game against Germany made it two for Nigeria assisted by Alani in the 28th minute.

Flourish Chioma Sabastine who scored the winner against Korea Republic was the third goal scorer in additional time of the first half.

The Falconets returned in the second half, protecting their three-goal cushion.

Danjuma made several changes and in additional time Joy Igbokwe added a fourth assisted by Esther Ajakaye in additional time in the second half.

The victory means Nigeria finished second on goal difference in group D, level on points with Germany.

The Falconets now wait for the conclusion of the group stage to find out their knockout stage opponents.
