This wasn’t the fluent Spanish side that we saw in the first two matches at Colombia 2024 but they still managed to get the job done against lively debutants Morocco.
Even with a starting XI that featured eight changes, Spain bounced into their usual rhythm early on as defender Nahia Aparicio rose to send a thumping header past Fatima El Jebraoui in just the fifth minute.
Morocco though managed to limit the opportunities that the champions had with El Jebraoui making a crucial save to deny Erika Gonzalez from the spot midway through the second half.
A late Lucia Moral strike making the points safe for Spain; they finish top with three wins from three and wait to see who they will face in the second round while Morocco head home without a point but with plenty of new admirers.
Morocco end their debut tournament without a point or a goal but with only six conceded in a tough group.
Spain have lost only one of their past 15 matches at the tournament.
“I’m really proud to be able to score for my team, for my country. If I can help the team with my goals it’s a great feeling because I will do anything I can to help Spain win.” Lucia Moral, Spain forward
